Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide operational and administrative support to the Compliance and Investigations function of the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO).

Key Accountabilities

• Assisting in the intake and initial review of complaints received by PDPO, including checking completeness, categorising complaints by nature and severity, and preparing acknowledgement communications to complainants.
• Supporting investigation activities by gathering and organising documentary and digital evidence, preparing case summaries, and maintaining accurate investigation files in accordance with the Office’s case management procedures.
• Maintaining and updating the investigation case register, tracking the progress of all assigned matters against statutory timelines, and flagging cases at risk of delay to the supervising officer.
• Assisting in the preparation of investigation reports by compiling factual records, conducting legal research, and drafting relevant sections under the supervision of the assigned Data Protection Specialist.
• Drafting routine correspondence to complainants, respondents, and other parties at various stages of the investigation process, including acknowledgement letters, information requests, and status update notices.
• Assisting in the preparation of evidence briefs, witness statements, and supporting documentation for use in regulatory proceedings, court processes, or alternative dispute resolution, as directed by the supervising officer.
• Performing any other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degree from a recognized university is required;
• Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre is required;
• An internationally recognised Data Protection and Privacy training is an added advantage

Experience

A minimum of six (6) months of experience in legal practice work with a reputable public or private organisation is required.

Technical Competencies

• Knowledge of Uganda’s criminal and regulatory legal framework, including the Penal Code Act, Cap 128, Criminal Procedure Code Act, Cap 122, and Evidence Act, Cap 8.
• Knowledge of Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy legal framework.
• Good legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify relevant legal provisions and apply them to factual scenarios

• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills to maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders, including law enforcement, the judiciary, and other regulators.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and prioritise assignments to meet deadlines.
• High integrity and commitment to ethical professional conduct
