Job Description
The Project Assistant is a high-energy, versatile volunteer position at the heart of WDF’s programmatic and advocacy work. This role is ideal for a motivated young professional or recent graduate seeking hands-on experience in development programming, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization and civic communications. The Project Assistant will work closely with the Head of Programs & Strategic Partnerships and contribute meaningfully across multiple workstreams simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the planning, logistics and execution of the Youth Conference/Workshops — including venue booking, agenda development, participant mobilization, facilitator coordination, pre and post-event documentation
- Support coordination of national partners and strategic alliances, maintaining communication schedules, partner databases and follow-up trackers
- Lead or support community mobilization activities — engaging beneficiaries, local leaders and community groups for field activities and project participation.
- Coordinate and document community engagement sessions, focus group discussions and stakeholder forums
- Draft concept notes, project briefs and meeting notes for programs, events and partnership engagements.
- Manage venue booking, logistics and event administration for workshops, trainings, and convenings
- Develop and review meeting agendas, session plans and event programmes
- Represent WDF in partner engagements, coalition meetings and advocacy forums
- Support lobbying and advocacy campaigns on youth, governance and development issues aligned with WDF’s pillars
- Develop blogs, articles, social media content and field stories that showcase program impact and community voices
- Create and manage communications content including newsletters, briefs, program updates and visibility materials
- Support program alignment reviews — ensuring activities are consistent with WDF’s strategic pillars and donor commitments
- Assist in budgeting, activity costing and resource mobilization including contributions to proposal writing and donor concept notes
- Maintain program filing systems, activity logs and compliance trackers
- Perform any other duties assigned that advance WDF’s mission and programs.
Person Specification
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Development Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Communications or a related field; ongoing degree programs welcome
- Demonstrated interest in youth engagement, community development, Agriculture, public financing or governance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Luganda or French or Spanish is an asset
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and social media platforms
- Experience with Canva, Adobe or content creation tools is an added advantage
- Prior volunteer, internship or community work experience will be an added advantage
