Job Description
Job Title: Security Guard (2 Positions)
- Job ID: BAMA_SEC_2026_01_013

- Duty Station: Fort Portal City and Jinja or Kamuli
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Contract Duration: Annual, renewable
- Working Hours: Shift-based (day and/or night shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required)
Position Purpose
- The Security Guard will be responsible for ensuring the physical safety, security, and protection of all BAMA Foundation personnel, visitors, and assets—including critical project equipment such as vehicles, laptops, and medical supplies—within the assigned office and compound.
- This role is vital to maintaining a secure and orderly environment that enables project staff to focus on implementing life-saving maternal and newborn health interventions without security concerns.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
a) Premises Security and Access Control
- Guard and protect BAMA Foundation offices, storage facilities, project vehicles, and all assets against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
- Conduct regular, documented patrols (interior and exterior) of the premises to deter and identify potential security risks or safety hazards.
- Strictly monitor and control all access points, verifying the identity of all staff and visitors. Ensure all visitors are logged, badged (if applicable), and escorted as per BAMA security protocols.
- Secure the premises at the close of business, ensuring all doors, windows, and gates are properly locked.
a) Asset Protection and Monitoring
- Monitor the movement of all organizational assets (e.g., vehicles, fuel, medical equipment, office inventory) in and out of the premises, ensuring proper documentation and authorization is presented.
- Specifically safeguard high-value project equipment procured for the WeCare project, such as IT equipment, and project vehicles.
- Support asset verification during periodic inventory checks.
3. Incident Response, Reporting, and Emergency Preparedness
- Remain vigilant and respond immediately to any security incident, breach, alarm, or emergency situation on the premises.
- Accurately record and promptly report all incidents, irregularities, suspicious activities, or safety concerns in the security logbook and to the supervisor.
- Assist in the execution of emergency procedures, including fire response, medical emergencies, or evacuation drills. Know the location and basic use of fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
- Cooperate fully and professionally with local law enforcement or emergency services if their intervention is required.
4. Professional Conduct and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to all BAMA Foundation policies, including the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, and Safety & Security guidelines.
- Maintain a professional, alert, and courteous demeanor at all times when interacting with staff, visitors, and the public.
- Uphold the highest levels of integrity, confidentiality, and reliability.
- Perform any other security-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Person Specification
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.
- At least 1-2 years of proven experience in a security guard, watchman, or safety role. Experience with an NGO, private security firm, or an institutional setting (hospital, school) is a strong advantage.
- Formal training/certification in security guarding, safety procedures, or basic firefighting is highly desirable.

- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully, and to write basic incident reports.

Babies and Mothers Alive Foundation (BAMA) is a Ugandan-led NGO founded in 2004. Our mission is to create partnerships that transform the quality of reproductive, maternal, and newborn health in Uganda.
We work hand in hand with the Ministry of Health in Uganda, district local governments, local communities, and other partners to co-design and implement sustainable, evidence-based interventions. Our collaborative approach focuses on strengthening health systems, building local capacity, and addressing the social and structural barriers that contribute to preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
