Our client is a fast-growing company operating in Uganda’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG)sector. With an expanding footprint across retail, wholesale, and distribution channels, the company is committed to strengthening its internal systems and building a high-performance workforce to support continued growth in a competitive and price-sensitive market.

Job Summary

The Shop Attendant will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, driving sales, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the retail outlet. The role requires a proactive, trustworthy, and energetic individual capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment with high customer volumes.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

  • Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner and assist them with product selection.
  • Actively promote and upsell products and ongoing promotions to meet daily sales targets.
  • Provide accurate information on product pricing, availability, and offers.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints promptly and escalate when necessary.

Cash Handling & Transactions

  • Operate the cash register/POS system accurately and efficiently.
  • Receive payments (cash, mobile money, or other approved methods) and issue receipts.
  • Ensure all sales are properly recorded.
  • Balance cash at the end of each shift and report any discrepancies immediately.

Stock Management

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked, clean, and well-organized at all times.
  • Receive, check, and properly store deliveries.
  • Monitor stock levels and report low stock, damages, or expiries.
  • Participate in regular stock counts and inventory reconciliation.
  • Ensure proper rotation of stock (FIFO – First In, First Out), especially for food products.

Store Operations & Hygiene

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the shop, including display areas and storage spaces.
  • Adhere to basic food safety and hygiene standards when handling products.
  • Ensure the store environment is safe, welcoming, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Support opening and closing procedures of the shop.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain simple daily records of sales and stock movements as required.
  • Follow company procedures, internal controls, and reporting guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Business Administration, Sales, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in retail, FMCG, or customer service is an added advantage.
  • Basic numeracy and familiarity with cash handling or POS systems.
