Job Description
The position
Aga Khan Education Services, (AKES, U) is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to enriching the lives of “many generations of multi-racial and multi-cultural student populations” through the provision of quality and affordable education. AKES, U operates schools from Pre-School to High School and offers the Cambridge Curriculum, International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Uganda National Primary and Secondary Curriculum.
The Special Support Mathematics Teacher will be responsible for supporting a class of secondary-aged multilingual learners in developing a program to rebuild essential mathematical understanding through a carefully sequenced curriculum that progresses from basic numeracy, to algebraic principles, then to Cambridge Lower Secondary Mathematics, ultimately providing a strong foundation for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics at the International High School curriculum and progress towards IGCSE qualifications. The teacher will also ensure that the programme focuses on developing learners’ confidence, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and independent learning skills through engaging, learner-centred, and differentiated teaching
She/He will take on the following major Responsibilities
- To conduct diagnostic assessments to identify learners’ strengths and learning gaps.
- To design and deliver a structured bridging programme aligned with the learning pathway.
- To deliver engaging, learner-centred lessons using differentiated instructional strategies.
- To develop schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching resources, homework, and assessments.
- To monitor learner progress through continuous assessment and maintain individual learner profiles.
- To provide targeted intervention and remedial support for learners requiring additional assistance.
- To prepare regular learner progress reports and provide constructive feedback.
- To foster a positive learning environment that builds confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset.
- To prepare learners for a successful transition into Cambridge Lower Secondary Mathematics and future Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics.
The requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Mathematics Education, Education, or a related field.
- Training in differentiated instruction and learner-centred teaching methodologies
- Familiarity with Cambridge Lower Secondary and/or Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics curricula
- A minimum of 03 years teaching experience
- Experience in teaching mathematics to beginners who are aged 11–15 years is an advantage,
- Experience in supporting learners with learning gaps or providing remedial education.
- Empathetic, compassionate teacher who is patient with Mathematics Learners and is able to guide learners in their learning.
- Willingness to take direction and learn new ways of teaching learners.
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.
