About Media Challenge Initiative (MCI)

Media Challenge Initiative (MCI) is a youth-first media organisation building the next generation of journalists, storytellers and media leaders in Uganda and across Africa. Through hands-on apprenticeship training, an independent newsroom (Switch Africa and Solutions Now Africa), innovation programmes and solutions-oriented storytelling, MCI empowers young people to create media that drives community change, promotes information integrity, and fosters youth innovation.

The Role: Productions Intern

Media Challenge Initiative (MCI) is seeking a creative and motivated Productions Intern to join our team in Kampala. The intern will support visual storytelling that amplifies youth and community voices while contributing to MCI’s mission in media innovation and narrative change.

This is a great opportunity for a young professional looking to gain practical learning experience in audiovisual production, video filming, basic editing, content creation and equipment handling while contributing to the organisation’s media output.

Key Responsibilities

1. Video Coverage & Editing

  • Assist in filming and basic editing of MCI events, programmes and client projects

2. Content Development

  • Help develop and edit short videos, photos and social media content for the Communications team and organisational platforms
  • Contribute ideas for stories and content under supervision

3. Equipment Management

  • Assist with the setup, operation, transportation and proper storage of production equipment (cameras, microphones, lights, etc.)
  • Report any damage or faults to the supervisor immediately

4. Archive Management

  • Support the organisation and maintenance of video files and digital media archives for easy access and retrieval

5. Quality Control

  • Help ensure all produced content maintains good image and sound quality according to MCI standards

6. Digital Support

  • Provide basic assistance in digital media production tasks and learn about new production tools and technologies as directed by the supervisor

7. Data Management

  • Assist in proper file organisation, naming conventions and basic backup of production files

How to Apply
