Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Department: HSSQE

Reports To: Not Specified

Duty Station: Office Based and Field Based

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting product testing, quality assurance checks, and laboratory analysis to ensure products meet established quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The role supports quality control processes by performing accurate laboratory tests, maintaining testing equipment, analysing results, and providing reliable data to support operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory tests and product quality checks in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Perform analysis of product samples and accurately record test results and observations.
  • Collect, label, handle, and store samples in line with laboratory and quality control requirements.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Identify quality deviations, investigate abnormalities, and escalate findings for corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, certificates, and other documentation.
  • Support quality assurance activities, audits, and compliance inspections.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling requirements, and HSSE standards.
  • Participate in equipment maintenance, calibration checks, and laboratory improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and quality insights to operational teams where required.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Chemistry
    • Laboratory Technology
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Science
    • Or a related technical discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training or certification in:
    • Quality Management Systems
    • Laboratory Practices
    • ISO Standards
    • Analytical Testing Methods
  • These are considered an added advantage.
Experience
  • One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in:
    • Laboratory testing
    • Quality control
    • Product analysis
    • Or a related technical environment.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment and conducting analytical tests.
  • Experience working with quality standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Experience in petroleum, chemical, manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial laboratory environments is an added advantage.
Technical Competencies
  • Laboratory testing and analytical techniques.
  • Quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Sample collection, preparation, and analysis.
  • Laboratory equipment operation and calibration.
  • Data recording, analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling.
  • Understanding of ISO quality standards and testing procedures.
  • Technical documentation and record management.
Working Environment
  • Laboratory and operational environment involving product testing and quality assessments using specialised equipment and analytical procedures.
  • Requires strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards, including proper handling of samples, chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
  • Works closely with Quality, Operations, and Technical teams to ensure products meet required specifications and regulatory requirement
