Job Description

Job Title: Town Agent

Salary Scale: U7

Reports To: Assistant Town Clerk

Job Purpose

To ensure that taxes are promptly assessed and collected, and that law and order are maintained within the Ward.

Key Outputs
  • Population in the Ward mobilized to meet their civic obligations.
  • Taxes and property rates assessed and collected.
  • Law and order maintained in the Ward.
  • Simple civil disputes arbitrated.
  • Adherence to Ward Council policies on hygiene, sanitation, and development enforced.
  • Duties of Secretary to the Ward performed.
  • Ward cleaning supervised.
  • Businesses within the Ward registered.
Key Functions
  • Mobilize the population in the Ward to meet their civic obligations.
  • Assess and collect taxes and property rates.
  • Maintain law and order within the Ward.
  • Register all businesses operating in the Ward.
  • Arbitrate simple civil disputes.
  • Enforce adherence to Council policies on hygiene, sanitation, and development.
  • Perform the duties of Secretary to the Ward.
  • Supervise cleaning activities within the Ward.
Person Specifications

Qualifications

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) from a recognized institution; or
  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) plus a Certificate in any of the following:
    • Public Administration and Management
    • Social Work and Social Administration
    • Education
    • Environmental Management
    • Community Development
