Assistant Mechanical / Maintenance Technician

Job Detail

Supports preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on factory equipment under the guidance of experienced technicians, fitters, and engineers.
Contributes to plant reliability by inspecting components, performing routine servicing, and assisting with repairs across production machinery.

Perform routine preventive maintenance according to work orders, including lubrication, tightening loose components, cleaning equipment, and replacing approved minor parts.
Inspect mechanical components such as conveyors, bearings, drive belts, chains, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, and couplings for wear, vibration, overheating, or leaks.
Assist with bearing replacements, belt installations, chain tensioning, alignment checks, basic mechanical fitting, and fabrication tasks.
Follow Lock Out/Tag Out and isolation procedures for all energy sources before assisting with maintenance or clearing simple machine jams.
Maintain strict machine safety by never reaching into moving equipment or bypassing guards, and avoiding independent high risk repairs without authorization.
Manage workshop tools by properly issuing, returning, and maintaining hand tools and workshop equipment.
Ensure complete post repair cleanup to eliminate contamination hazards, loose bolts, tools, metal fragments, or grease from maintenance areas.
Record completed maintenance tasks, parts used, faults identified, and outstanding follow up work in maintenance records.
Collaborate with production teams to understand equipment faults and confirm when machinery is safe to return to service.

Mechanical aptitude and safe hand tool handling.
Preventive maintenance and equipment lubrication techniques.
Mechanical fitting, chain tensioning, and belt alignment.
Equipment inspection and abnormal condition detection.
Knowledge of Lock Out/Tag Out safety procedures and good housekeeping practices.

Degree, Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or related trades.
National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Trade Test, vocational certificate, technical school qualification, recognized apprenticeship, or equivalent mechanical training in Mechanical Fitting, Machining, Welding/Fabrication, or related technical disciplines.
UACE candidates with demonstrated technical aptitude entering a formal trainee pathway.
UCE qualification when combined with recognized mechanical vocational or trade training.
