Automated Packaging Department Manager

Job Detail

Manage the end to end operations of vertical baggers, checkweighers, flow wrappers, and carton packing lines to deliver high quality snack packaging.
Drive departmental performance by balancing lines, maximizing overall equipment effectiveness, and eliminating avoidable operational waste, delays, and safety risks.
Provide hands on leadership to line teams while upholding strict safety, hygiene, quality specifications, and regulatory standards.

Manage daily operations across vertical baggers, checkweighers, flow wrappers, and carton packing lines to ensure snack packaging targets are met safely and efficiently.
Allocate shift tasks according to technician and operator competence, ensuring full coverage of critical operational, quality, and safety routines.
Enforce rigorous compliance with approved standard operating procedures, hygiene rules, machine settings, and safety protocols without informal bypasses.
Lead rapid troubleshooting and root cause analysis during equipment breakdowns, quality defects, or material losses to restore normal operations.
Track and analyze packaging line performance metrics, including overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, downtime, and line balance.
Coordinate with maintenance, quality assurance, warehousing, and processing teams to align packaging schedules, maintenance windows, and material flows.
Oversee the completion of legible, traceable, and accurate production logs, equipment check sheets, handover reports, and incident documentation.
Champion workplace health, safety, and food hygiene standards, strictly enforcing personal protective equipment use, lockout tagout procedures, and hazard reporting.

High speed automated packaging line management and line balancing
Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) tracking and process loss reduction
Root cause analysis and operational problem solving on packaging machinery
Supervisory leadership, shift scheduling, and team performance management
Digital interface competence including PLC/HMI machine screens and production reporting systems

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Management, Industrial or Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, or Operations Management
Higher Diploma or Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Production Engineering, Packaging Technology, or a directly related technical field combined with extensive operational experience
Recognized UBTEB, TVET, or equivalent vocational and trade qualifications in engineering, packaging maintenance, or technical supervisory management
Relevant professional certifications in quality management, occupational health and safety, or packaging operations
Equivalent accredited international qualifications in packaging technology or related engineering disciplines
