About the Job

The Applications Support Officer will be responsible for the proactive identification, isolation, and resolution of issues within the business applications environment.

The successful candidate will ensure application platforms maintain high levels of uptime and service availability, respond to customer trouble tickets escalated from front-end support teams within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and support the efficient operation and maintenance of business applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor IT applications’ uptime and performance using monitoring tools, alerts, dashboards, and other available technologies.
  • Analyze and resolve application-related issues escalated from the Bank’s Level 2 support team during operations.
  • Maintain proper documentation and logs for application issues and their resolutions.
  • Coordinate with application vendors in cases involving product bugs or enhancement requirements.
  • Follow up with vendors to ensure timely resolution of application issues.
  • Own application-related calls, problems, and incidents assigned through the IT service desk system.
  • Investigate and analyze application problems and coordinate with relevant teams to resolve them.
  • Update issue statuses and provide resolution information to facilitate incident closure.
  • Schedule, plan, and execute the installation and testing of new products, upgrades, patches, and application improvements.
  • Gather system enhancement requests, data extraction requests, and reporting requirements from system users.
  • Work with the Information Technology team to develop detailed technical requirements and specifications.
  • Monitor banking systems’ performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting of network-related problems.
  • Escalate technical problems to vendors where necessary.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in an IT-related course is an added advantage.
  • Practical training in IT-related short courses.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an IT department within a busy organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of dockerization and containerization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • In-depth experience with SQL and Database Management Systems (DBMS), including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • In-depth experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Programming experience in languages such as Python, C#, PHP, JavaScript, Java, or similar.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve user problems.
  • Knowledge of scripting.
