Job Description
Are you passionate about making a difference, bringing fresh ideas and contributing your skills to meaningful work? This could be your opportunity.
Hive Colab is recruiting a team to deliver the Youth Startup Academy (YSA 2.0), which incubates entrepreneurs in Uganda’s creative sector. YSA 2.0 is delivered in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the project “Uganda: Enhancing Skills and Enabling Financial Inclusion for Young Women in the Creative Economy”, known as the CREATE Programme.
The purpose of YSA 2.0 is to strengthen the startup ecosystem for young entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in Uganda by providing comprehensive incubation services, networking opportunities and access to finance. Over the life of the project, 1,000 entrepreneurs will move through three incubation stages, from bootcamp to classroom training to incubation, with 450 progressing to the second stage and 180 to the third. The programme combines training, mentorship, grants (including film accelerator grants), pitch events and ecosystem engagement, delivered through more than 20 regional training events across Uganda.
We invite qualified, motivated and results-oriented individuals to apply for the project roles below. We are looking for professionals who demonstrate strong technical expertise, a collaborative spirit, integrity and a commitment to delivering results.
Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities Statement
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. All employees are expected to share this commitment and follow our safeguarding policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks, which may include references, criminal record checks where legally permitted, and verification of relevant qualifications and employment history. Checks will be proportionate to the role and comply with applicable legislation.
Application deadline: Thursday, 5 November 2026
Role Purpose
Project Field Officers are responsible for the on-the-ground execution of YSA 2.0 activities across regions. They ensure effective engagement of entrepreneurs, smooth delivery of training and incubation activities, and consistent data collection at the field level.
Given the scale of the programme, with multiple cohorts, regional training, and continuous engagement across incubation stages, this role is essential to ensuring that implementation is not only centralised but also effectively delivered where entrepreneurs are located.
Responsibilities
- Implement project activities at the regional level across all incubation stages.
- Support mobilisation, recruitment, and onboarding of entrepreneurs into the programme.
- Coordinate logistics for all field-based activities, including bootcamps, trainings, mentorship sessions, and events.
- Ensure participants attend, engage, and progress through Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3.
- Provide first-line support to entrepreneurs, responding to questions and guiding them through programme requirements.
- Facilitate communication between entrepreneurs and the core project team, including mentors and coordinators.
- Support onboarding and engagement of entrepreneurs on the Ye Community platform.
- Track attendance and participation across all activities and ensure accurate record keeping.
- Collect field-level data, including feedback, challenges, and performance indicators.
- Identify and escalate risks affecting participation, retention, or performance of entrepreneurs.
- Support organisation and execution of pitch events, mock pitch sessions, and graduation activities at the regional level.
- Ensure proper use and management of training materials and resources in the field.
- Represent the project locally and support engagement with local ecosystem stakeholders.
Relevant Experience
- At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in field-based project implementation, community engagement, entrepreneurship development, youth programming, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience mobilising, recruiting, onboarding, and supporting project participants or beneficiaries.
- Experience organising and facilitating training sessions, workshops, bootcamps, mentorship activities, and community events.
- Proven ability to coordinate field logistics, maintain attendance records, collect participant feedback, and prepare activity reports.
- Experience engaging entrepreneurs, youth-led businesses, MSMEs, community groups, or other target beneficiaries.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor participant engagement, identify implementation challenges, and escalate issues to project management.
- Experience working with local stakeholders, business networks, trainers, mentors, and community organisations.
- Experience implementing donor-funded projects and working across multiple districts or regions is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with digital data collection tools and online learning or community engagement platforms is desirable.
Key Deliverables and Reporting
- Regional implementation plans aligned to overall project schedule.
- Attendance and participation records for all field activities.
- Field activity reports summarising implementation, participation, and key observations.
- Data submissions to the M&E Lead, including real-time updates on engagement and performance.
- Participant tracking reports showing progression across incubation stages.
- Field feedback reports highlighting challenges, opportunities, and recommendations.
- Support documentation for training events, mentorship sessions, and pitch activities.
- Inputs into operational updates before, during, and after each incubation stage.
- Contribution to quarterly reporting through field-level insights and data.
Why This Role Is Critical
Project Field Officers ensure that:
- The project is effectively delivered across multiple regions without loss of quality.
- Entrepreneurs remain engaged and supported throughout the programme lifecycle.
- There is accurate, real-time visibility into what is happening on the ground.
- Participation targets are achieved and maintained.
- Challenges are identified early and addressed quickly.
- The gap between programme design and real-world implementation is minimised.
Without this role, the project risks becoming centralised and disconnected from the entrepreneurs it is designed to support.
