Applications are invited from suitable and qualified candidates to fill the under listed vacant posts that-exist in the service of Nakaseke district local goverment.

Mortuary Attendant

Applications to be submitted in Triplicate on PSC Form No.3 (2008 revised) & ESC Form No.3 (1998 Revised) for education positions, to the Secretary, Nakaseke District

Service Commission, Po Box 451, Luwero-Uganda not later than 2nd December 2026. The applications should be accompanied with 3 recent size photographs of the applicant and Photocopies of Certified Academic Certificates, a copy of your CV and Other Relevant Supporting Documents.

The application forms are obtainable from Nakaseke District Service Commission Offices, Farmers House- Kampala or any District/ City Service Commissions. Applications should bear the Title of the Post and Reference Number specified against each post. Serving Officers must route their Applications through their Heads of Department who should be informed of the closing date.

Job Title: Mortuary Attendant

Reports To: Mortuary Assistant

1. Job Purpose

To assist in the receipt, storage, preservation and safe handling of human remains, and prepare bodies for post-mortem examinations in accordance with established mortuary procedures, health and safety standards.

2. Key Outputs

  • Human remains received, recorded, preserved and safely stored.
  • Bodies released to rightful claimants in accordance with established procedures.
  • Bodies prepared for post-mortem examinations.
  • Pathologists and Mortuary Assistants supported during post-mortem procedures.
  • Pathological specimens delivered to the laboratory for examination.
  • Pathological remains collected and safely disposed of.
  • Mortuary cleaned and disinfected.
  • Unclaimed bodies identified and reported to the relevant authorities.

3. Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Receiving, identifying, recording, preserving and safely storing human remains received from the hospital or other authorized sources.
  • Ensuring that bodies are properly labelled, documented and stored to facilitate identification and retrieval.
  • Releasing bodies to rightful claimants after verification of the necessary authorization and completion of established procedures.
  • Preparing bodies for post-mortem examinations as directed by the Mortuary Assistant or Pathologist.
  • Assisting Pathologists and Mortuary Assistants during post-mortem examinations.
  • Collecting, labelling, handling and delivering pathological specimens to the laboratory for examination.
  • Collecting and safely disposing of pathological remains in accordance with established infection prevention and waste management procedures.
  • Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the mortuary, storage facilities and associated equipment to ensure a hygienic environment.
  • Observing infection prevention and control measures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment when handling human remains and pathological materials.
  • Reporting unclaimed bodies and maintaining accurate records of their receipt, storage and status.
  • Ensuring the safe custody and proper use of mortuary equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Reporting damaged equipment, storage faults and any incidents affecting the safety or preservation of human remains.
  • Observing professional ethics, confidentiality, dignity and respect in the handling of human remains and interaction with bereaved families.

A. Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Must possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE/O’ Level) or Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Certificate.
  • Must be able to read and write.

  • Ethics and integrity.
  • Time management.
  • Ability to handle human remains with dignity and respect.
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene, sanitation and infection prevention practices.
