Job Description

Applications should be filled in triplicate on Public Service Commission Form No.3 (2008) and submitted to the Secretary, District Service Commission, P. O. Box 67, Masindi, to be received not later than 4th/December/ 2026.
The application forms are obtainable from the Public Service Commission Offices, Farmers’ house, 2nd Floor, Parliament Avenue Kampala and District Service Commission Offices.
Applications should bear the title of the post as well as the Reference Number specified against the vacancy. Applicants should attach three(3) recent passport size photographs, certified photocopies of their Academic Certificates, Transcripts, Slips, copies of Registration Certificates and valid Practicing Certificates/License (for Health Workers who are required by law to register with relevant Professional Councils) plus any other relevant documents.
Applicants already in service should route their applications through their Heads of Departments who must be informed of the closing date to avoid delay.
Applicants who shall not hear from the District Service Commission, on completion of the recruitment and selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Laboratory Assistant
Salary Scale: U7
Reports To: Senior Veterinary Officer (Disease Control)
1. JOB PURPOSE
To carry out laboratory investigations, prepare periodic analytical reports and maintain the safety of laboratory stocks.
2. KEY OUTPUTS
- Laboratory analyses carried out and reports submitted to the requesting officer.
- Laboratory reagents for routine investigations prepared.
- Hazardous laboratory substances and waste safely disposed of.
- Laboratory equipment maintained and serviced.
- Supplies for laboratory work requisitioned and stock records maintained.
- Periodic laboratory reports compiled and submitted to the immediate supervisor.
3. KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carrying out laboratory analyses and submitting reports to the requesting officer.
- Preparing laboratory reagents and stains for routine investigations.
- Safely disposing of hazardous laboratory substances and waste.
- Maintaining and regularly servicing laboratory equipment.
- Requisitioning necessary supplies for laboratory work and maintaining stock records.
- Compiling periodic laboratory reports and submitting them to the immediate supervisor.
4. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- A Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
Competencies and Skills
- Records and information management.
- Concern for quality and standards.
- Ethics and integrity.
- Time management.
