Company Description

Kalangala District also known as the Ssese Islands, is a unique archipelago consisting of 84 scattered islands in the northwestern part of Lake Victoria. It is the only entirely aquatic district in Uganda, with only about 5% of its total area being land. The district’s economy is primarily driven by three pillars: fishing, which supports the majority of the islanders; a growing tourism sector centered on pristine beaches and tropical forests; and agriculture, notably large-scale and smallholder oil palm production.
The Kalangala District Local Government acts as the primary administrative authority responsible for delivering public services across the inhabited islands. Operating under Uganda’s decentralization policy, it manages essential sectors such as health, education, and rural infrastructure through a structure of two counties, six sub-counties, and one town council. Its mission is to provide coordinated services that focus on both national priorities and local needs, such as improving water transport and managing public health challenges like high HIV/AIDS prevalence within fishing communities.
The Kalangala District Service Commission is an independent statutory body mandated to manage the district’s human resources. It holds the power to recruit, confirm, promote, and exercise disciplinary control over all local government employees to ensure a professional and efficient workforce. The Commission strictly upholds a “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” policy, emphasizing that recruitment is a free service and that any form of bribery or canvassing leads to automatic disqualification
