Liberty Insurance operates in Uganda through two distinct licensed entities: Liberty Life Assurance Uganda Limited and Liberty General Insurance Uganda Limited. Headquartered in the Madhvani Building on Buganda Road in Kampala, the firm is a collaborative venture between South Africa’s pan-African financial services giant, Liberty Holdings Limited (established in 1957 by Sir Donald Gordon), and the local Madhvani Group. Liberty originally entered the Ugandan insurance sector in 2008 as a specialist life insurer before expanding its market share through corporate acquisitions, notably taking over East African Underwriters Limited to establish its robust non-life general insurance division.
