Job Description

About Emata

We are a fast-growing Ugandan fintech transforming agricultural finance. Since launching in 2021, we have served  60,000+ farmers and partnered with 100+ agri companies and cooperatives, including several of the continent’s most renowned agri company players. We blend AI, technology, and deep industry expertise to deliver world-class lending products tailored for farmers.

  • Products: Digital loans, crop insurance, digital payments
  • Team: 20+ engineers, data scientists, product & business
  • Culture perks: cappuccinos from farmers we lend to, freedom to learn & innovate, flexible remote days, and more.

At our core, we value teamwork over titles, critical thinking over copying, ownership of outcomes, fast learning, and integrity without compromise.

What you’ll do

  • Get out and talk to farmers, field agents and agri-company partners — dig for what they actually need, not what we assume from behind a desk
  • Turn that raw insight into clear product requirements the team can build from
  • Team up daily with our product, AI and engineering colleagues to move features from sketch to launch
  • Own the last mile: shape how we position and roll out new features so farmers don’t just get them, they actually use them
  • Put new features through their paces before they ship — test them, break them, and make sure they work in the field, not just on the screen
  • Chase down the story in the data: spot what’s landing, what’s tripping people up, and what to fix next
  • Keep the product backlog orderly and help the CPO prioritise

What we’re looking for

  • 3–5 years of experience, ideally with a marketing or branding background and a real pull toward tech and product
  • Comfortable with technology — you pick up new tools quickly and enjoy figuring out how things work
  • Good with ambiguity — you can take a fuzzy problem, make sense of it, and move it forward without waiting for perfect instructions
  • Conceptual thinker — you see the bigger picture and can connect the dots between farmer needs, product, and business
  • Strong communicator — you write clearly and explain an idea simply, whether you’re talking to a farmer, an engineer, or a partner
  • Organised, self-driven, and happy in a small team where roles stretch
  • A genuine interest in agriculture, financial inclusion, or East African markets

Nice to have

  • Exposure to fintech, agri-tech, or working with rural or underserved customers
  • Hands-on experience with product tools, no-code builders, analytics dashboards, or running campaigns
