Job Description

Kampala, Uganda

Do you like turning loose ends into clear next steps? We’re looking for a Portfolio Associate to keep our coffee and crop loans on track – from disbursement to final repayment.

About Emata

Emata is a frontrunner in agri finance in East Africa — backed by award-winning tech and a mission-driven team. Since launching in 2021, we’ve served 70 000+ farmers and partnered with 120+ agri companies and cooperatives, blending data science, AI and deep industry love for agriculture. At our core, we value curiosity, accountability and results that tangibly uplift rural communities.

  • Products: Digital loans, crop insurance, payments
  • Team: 25+ engineers, data scientists, product & business
  • Culture perks: cappuccinos from farmers we lend to, freedom to innovate, health insurance cover, salary-backed loans, ongoing training & certifications

At our core, we value teamwork over titles, critical thinking over copying, ownership of outcomes, fast learning, and integrity without compromise.

What you’ll do

You’ll be the engine behind our Coffee & Crops portfolio – making sure money goes out fast, comes back on time, and every farmer keeps their loan limit growing. Specifically:

  • Keep loans flowing: set up loan products, run KYC and CRB checks, and get disbursements out quickly and correctly‍
  • Keep repayments on track: process repayments and create new repayment schedules ‍
  • Spot trouble early: flag repayment issues and line up the right follow-ups for our call center ‍
  • Run limits: check that partner data is accurate and complete, and run credit limits ‍
  • Keep insurance tidy: make sure cover is in place where relevant and claims are settled without delay ‍
  • Support launches: prepare, coordinate, and join seasonal campaigns with our partners

You might be the one if you are…

  • Structured and detail-oriented – schedules are clean and numbers add up
  • Proactive and persistent – you chase the issue, you don’t wait for it
  • Confident on the phone and in the field with farmers and partners
  • 1–3 years’ experience, ideally in fintech, agricultural sourcing or sustainability
  • Fluent in English, Luganda, and at least one of the following (Lukhonzo, Rutoro, Runyankole, Lugisu)

You should be firm but fair. You can push for repayments without damaging trust. You thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-driven startup.
