Designation: Pastry Chef
Office Location: Kampala
Position description: We are seeking a creative and skilled Pastry Chef to lead the pastry section of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baking and dessert creation, with a flair for innovation and presentation. This role involves preparing a wide variety of pastries and baked goods, developing new recipes, and ensuring high standards of hygiene and quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
| Operate and manage the pastry section of the kitchen in collaboration with other chefs. |
| Prepare a variety of baked goods including cakes, cookies, pies, bread, and specialty desserts. |
| Decorate and present pastries in an appealing and artistic manner. |
| Develop new and seasonal recipes to enhance the menu and attract customers. |
| Monitor inventory and order ingredients, supplies, and equipment as needed. |
| Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen. |
| Meet with clients to discuss custom-made desserts for special occasions. |
| Train and supervise junior kitchen staff in pastry preparation and presentation. |
| Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry area. |
| Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate them into menu offerings. |
| Implement “Performance Management the Alliad Way” by setting KPI’s for direct reports (if assigned any), conduct regular reviews, identify training requirements and provide a coaching, mentoring and supportive role. |
| Ensures adherence to quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements in Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environment. |

Educational qualifications preferred

- Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts or Pastry/Baking from a recognized institution.

- Additional training in advanced pastry techniques is an advantage.
Required work experience
-
- 3–5 years of experience in pastry preparation in hotels, restaurants, or catering establishments.

- Experience in creating and presenting high-quality desserts and baked goods.
Work Environment Details:

- Work involves long hours in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
-
- Exposure to heat, humidity, and sharp tools; strict adherence to hygiene and safety protocols required.

- Occasional extended hours during peak seasons, events, or special orders.
