Job Description

Cold Chain Technician

Applications should be filled in triplicate on Public Service Commission Form No.3 (2008) and submitted to the Secretary, District Service Commission, P. O. Box 67, Masindi, to be received not later than 4th/December/ 2026.
The application forms are obtainable from the Public Service Commission Offices, Farmers’ house, 2nd Floor, Parliament Avenue Kampala and District Service Commission Offices.
Applications should bear the title of the post as well as the Reference Number specified against the vacancy. Applicants should attach three(3) recent passport size photographs, certified photocopies of their Academic Certificates, Transcripts, Slips, copies of Registration Certificates and valid Practicing Certificates/License (for Health Workers who are required by law to register with relevant Professional Councils) plus any other relevant documents.
Applicants already in service should route their applications through their Heads of Departments who must be informed of the closing date to avoid delay.
Applicants who shall not hear from the District Service Commission, on completion of the recruitment and selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Cold Chain Technician
Salary Scale: U6
Reports To: Assistant District Health Officer/Maternal and Child Health Care
Responsible For: Cold Chain Assistants
1. JOB PURPOSE
To install and maintain an efficient Cold Chain System for the safe storage of vaccines and other medicines.
2. KEY OUTPUTS
- Plans and budgets prepared.
- Cold Chain maintenance monitored and evaluated.
- Refrigerators and other Cold Chain equipment installed and maintained.
- Cold Chain profile updated.
- Equipment and allocated resources accounted for.
- Participation in research activities undertaken.
- Reports compiled and submitted.
- Participation in immunization programmes undertaken.
- Cold Chain systems established.
- Guidelines for the safe storage of vaccines and other drugs enforced.
- Staff performance appraisals conducted.
3. KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning, budgeting, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating Cold Chain activities in Health Units.
- Installing, maintaining and servicing refrigerators and other Cold Chain equipment.
- Preparing and maintaining an up-to-date Cold Chain profile.
- Reporting on, requisitioning and accounting for equipment and allocated resources.
- Adhering to the professional code of conduct and ethics.
- Participating in research activities.
- Compiling and submitting reports.
- Participating in immunization programmes.
- Ensuring the safe custody of equipment and maintaining its functionality.
- Conducting staff performance appraisals.
4. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- An Ordinary Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from a recognized institution.
Competencies and Skills
- Planning, organizing and coordinating.
- Coaching and mentoring.
- Information Technology.
- Concern for quality and standards.
- Communication skills.
- Time management.
