Job Description
- Maintain modular, rubber, and stainless steel conveyor belts, drive chains, rollers, and bearings to ensure continuous, reliable manufacturing operations.
- Conduct routine inspections, diagnostic checks, and preventive maintenance to optimize equipment reliability while upholding strict safety and hygiene standards.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve mechanical issues quickly, safely restoring conveyor systems to proper service.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain modular, rubber, and stainless steel conveyor belts, replacing worn rollers, bearings, and drive chains.
- Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair conveyor machinery using technical drawings, equipment manuals, condition checks, and fault indications.
- Apply mechanical, electrical, and stored energy isolations to verify zero energy states before undertaking any intrusive maintenance.
- Verify machine guards, safety interlocks, lubrication levels, tensioning, and motor alignments prior to handing equipment back to production.
- Execute planned preventive maintenance inspections at designated intervals, tracking wear, vibration, noise, and operating temperatures.
- Coordinate with production operators before taking conveyor lines out of service and clearly communicate when systems are safe to re energize.
- Maintain complete and legible maintenance logs, inspection checklists, and shift handover records for all completed interventions.
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety, food safety, and environmental standards, never bypassing safety interlocks or operating controls.
Skills
- Conveyor belt splicing, tracking, and tensioning
- Bearing replacement, shaft fitting, and mechanical assembly
- Drive chain tensioning, sprocket alignment, and motor alignment
- Mechanical fault diagnosis using technical drawings, measurements, and manuals
- Safe isolation, lockout tagout protocols, and machine guarding verification
Education Qualifications & Experience
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, National Diploma, National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Trade Certificate, or recognized Apprenticeship (including UBTEB and equivalent TVET qualifications).
- Accepted technical fields include Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Plant Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Automotive Engineering, Water Engineering, Chemical Technology, Civil or Building Engineering, Plumbing, Marine Engineering, or closely related technical disciplines.
- Specialist technical certifications such as manufacturer training, welding qualifications, electrical installation permits, or relevant statutory licenses are advantageous.
Experience
- No prior work experience required.
- Includes a 1 month on site mechanical fitting apprenticeship upon appointment.
