Main purpose of the job
To lead the development and execution of outreach strategies that build strong relationships between the University & its stakeholders
Duties and Responsibilities
- Budget, plan and manage outreach activities;
- Ensure compliance with Outreach Policies and Regulations;
- Develop proposals for grants and/or contribute to proposals or funding applications where outreach is involved;
- Develop and implementing outreach and engagement strategies;
- Support Develop long-term plans for community relations and stakeholder engagement;
- Identify partnership opportunities with community groups, businesses, and institutions;
- Monitor, evaluate outreach effectiveness and prepare reports on outreach performance and impact;
- Supervise outreach staff and coordinators;
- Oversee outreach campaigns, events, and public initiatives;
- Ensure consistent messaging across platforms (events, communications, digital outreach);
- Coordinate with marketing, communications, and program Departments and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in community development;
- Represent the University at community meetings, conferences, and events and handle community concerns or partnership issues as they arise; and
- Perform any other official duties assigned by the supervisor.
Person Specifications
- a) Qualifications
- a) A Master’s Degree in either Business Administration (Marketing option), or Public Administration or Public Relations, or Mass Communication, or Social Science (Economics and Sociology), or Community Psychology or Education.
- b) An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in either Public Relations or Mass Communication, or Business Administration (Marketing), or Public Administration (Local Government), or Community Psychology, or Social Work and Social Administration or Social Sciences (Sociology), or Education from a recognized training Institution.
- c) Possession of a PhD in the required discipline is an added advantage.
- b) Experience
Should have at least Eight (8) years of experience in handling Community Engagement, Public Relations, Outreach Coordination and Stakeholder Management, three (3) of which should have been at a Principal level and above, in a University setting.
- c) Competences
- Partnership building, through leading staff to meet with local
leaders, schools, & non-profit groups to ascertain community needs.
- Students placements, by matching University students with volunteer work, internships and service learning projects.
- Project management by leading staff in Planning, holding workshops, fairs, tutoring programmes and Economic development events.
- Reports filing credentials, through demonstrable tracks on how communities benefit from the programmes & measure impact of University interventions.
- Strong leadership and team management;
- Excellent communication (written & verbal);
- Strategic thinking, planning and coordination;
- Relationship-building, Conflict resolution and networking;
- Budget management;and
- Data analysis and reporting.
