Job Description

  • Program continuous inkjet and Videojet coders to ensure accurate, legible batch and expiry date printing on bottle necks and caps.
  • Maintain, diagnose, and service packaging line coding equipment to maximize reliability and avoid unplanned downtime.
  • Manage ink and solvent handling while enforcing strict safety, chemical control, and packaging quality standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Program Videojet and continuous inkjet (CIJ) coders with accurate batch numbers, manufacturing dates, and expiry information.
  • Change ink and solvent cartridges safely in accordance with chemical hazard and spill prevention guidelines.
  • Perform regular printhead flushing, nozzle cleaning, and alignment checks to ensure crisp code legibility on packaging containers.
  • Diagnose electrical, electronic, and mechanical faults on coding units using operating manuals, fault codes, and diagnostic measurements.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and log machine parameters, wear patterns, and component conditions.
  • Apply isolation, energy discharge, and safe work control procedures prior to intrusive maintenance or repairs.
  • Verify guard placements, interlocks, calibrations, and print performance before handing coding machinery back to operations.
  • Maintain traceable shift logs and maintenance records covering consumable usage, downtime, machine adjustments, and repairs.

  • Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) coder programming and parameter setup
  • Printhead flushing, nozzle cleaning, and print quality optimization
  • Safe handling and control of hazardous ink and solvent chemicals
  • Systematic mechanical and electrical diagnostic troubleshooting
  • Safe equipment isolation and lockout verification procedures

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a closely related technical field
  • National Certificate, Craft Certificate, UBTEB, or equivalent TVET qualification, trade certificate, or recognized apprenticeship in a relevant electrical, electronic, or mechanical engineering discipline
  • Relevant manufacturer training, PLC training, electrical installation permits, or specialist coding equipment certifications strengthen candidacy

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience maintaining industrial continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers.
