Job Description
- Operate processing equipment including sugar dissolvers, plate heat exchangers, pasteurizers, and inline homogenizers for fruit juice production.
- Maintain end to end accountability for liquid ingredient processing by safeguarding equipment reliability, food safety standards, and operational flow.
- Perform routine technical adjustments, inspections, and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and prevent product defects.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate sugar dissolvers, plate heat exchangers, pasteurizers, and inline homogenizers in strict accordance with processing recipes and production targets.
- Log pasteurization temperatures, calibrate homogenizer pressures, and manage liquid transfer pumping within required safety and quality limits.
- Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair liquid processing equipment using manuals, technical drawings, fault codes, and operating history.
- Apply safe work controls and confirm isolation of electrical, mechanical, pressure, thermal, or chemical energies before carrying out intrusive work.
- Verify guards, settings, connections, lubrication, alignment, and functional performance before handing equipment back to production.
- Complete planned preventive maintenance inspections at designated frequencies, documenting early warning signs of wear, vibration, or leakage.
- Maintain complete, legible, and traceable shift logs, machine settings, test results, checklists, and maintenance records.
- Escalate serious safety hazards, major equipment risks, or suspected product contamination immediately through approved reporting channels.
Skills
- Pasteurization temperature logging and thermal processing control
- Homogenizer pressure calibration and liquid transfer pump operation
- Technical fault diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
- Safe isolation, lockout/tagout, and preventive maintenance execution
- PLC, HMI screen, and production documentation management
Education Qualifications & Experience
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, or National Diploma in Food Processing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Plant Maintenance, Chemical Technology, Water Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- National Certificate, Craft Certificate, UBTEB or recognized TVET qualification, trade certificate, or completed apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Automotive Engineering, Plumbing, Marine Engineering, or closely related trades.
- Manufacturer equipment training, PLC training, electrical installation permits, boiler certification, refrigeration certification, or applicable statutory credentials such as ERB/UPE registration or ERA licensing where required.
Experience
- At least 1 year of experience operating liquid heat treatment or syrup tank equipment.
