Designation: Pastry Chef

Office Location: Kampala

Position description: We are seeking a creative and skilled Pastry Chef to lead the pastry section of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baking and dessert creation, with a flair for innovation and presentation. This role involves preparing a wide variety of pastries and baked goods, developing new recipes, and ensuring high standards of hygiene and quality.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operate and manage the pastry section of the kitchen in collaboration with other chefs.
Prepare a variety of baked goods including cakes, cookies, pies, bread, and specialty desserts.
Decorate and present pastries in an appealing and artistic manner.
Develop new and seasonal recipes to enhance the menu and attract customers.
Monitor inventory and order ingredients, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen.
Meet with clients to discuss custom-made desserts for special occasions.
Train and supervise junior kitchen staff in pastry preparation and presentation.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry area.
Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate them into menu offerings.
Implement “Performance Management the Alliad Way” by setting KPI’s for direct reports (if assigned any), conduct regular reviews, identify training requirements and provide a coaching, mentoring and supportive role.
Ensures adherence to quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements in Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environment.

Reporting Team

Educational qualifications preferred

    • Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts or Pastry/Baking from a recognized institution.
    • Additional training in advanced pastry techniques is an advantage.

Required work experience

    • 3–5 years of experience in pastry preparation in hotels, restaurants, or catering establishments.
    • Experience in creating and presenting high-quality desserts and baked goods.

Work Environment Details:

    • Work involves long hours in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
    • Exposure to heat, humidity, and sharp tools; strict adherence to hygiene and safety protocols required.
    • Occasional extended hours during peak seasons, events, or special orders.
