Job Description

Job Description
Position: Procurement Officer
Reports to: Pharmacist
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary
Our client is seeking a sharp, highly agile, and open-minded Procurement Officer to join our operations and supply chain team. Operating in the fast-paced pharmaceutical wholesale and distribution sector, this role is responsible for ensuring seamless inventory acquisition, supplier management, and cost-efficiency.
We are looking for a vibrant, energetic young professional who possesses a strong commercial mindset. The ideal candidate must be highly adaptable someone who treats procurement not just as an office desk job, but as a core business driver, and who is eager to step out of their comfort zone to support and serve other departments (such as logistics, sales, and administration) whenever needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and Supply Chain Management: Assist in coordinating the procurement of pharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and equipment from local and international suppliers, ensuring optimal pricing and quality.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Actively support and serve other departments; work closely with warehousing, sales, and finance to align stock intake with sales forecasts and cash flow.
  • Agile Inventory Tracking: Monitor stock levels proactively to prevent stockouts or overstocking; handle delivery documentation, verify supplier invoices, and track purchase orders from dispatch to arrival.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain professional, high-vibrancy communication with suppliers and distributors to ensure timely deliveries and resolve supply discrepancies quickly.
  • Operational Flexibility: Demonstrate a hands-on, “all-hands-on-deck” mentality by readily pitching in with administrative tasks, client coordination, or logistics during peak business hours.

Key Competencies and Behavioral Traits

  • Agility and Speed: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, respond quickly to supply chain shifts, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Open-Minded and Versatile: A strong willingness to learn all facets of the pharmaceutical business and assist colleagues outside of traditional procurement boundaries.
  • Strong Negotiation and Analytical Skills: Sharp attention to detail with the ability to analyze price trends and negotiate favorable terms.
  • High Integrity and Professionalism: Strict adherence to transparency, accountability, and professional supply chain ethics.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Must hold a Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Must have 1 to 2 years of professional experience in procurement or supply chain. While open to various industries, experience within the pharmaceutical or medical supply space is highly preferred.
  • Age Profile: Between 23 to 25 years old.
  • Tech Savvy: Practical familiarity with inventory management software, MS Excel, or ERP systems is a strong advantage
