Job Summary

The Tax Accountant is responsible for managing statutory tax compliance, ensuring accurate tax reporting, and maintaining adherence to local tax regulations and Group tax requirements. The role oversees tax computations, reconciliations, filings, documentation, and tax-related advisory support while strengthening financial controls and ensuring timely submission of accurate tax information. The position requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, knowledge of tax legislation, and the ability to manage tax processes within strict regulatory timelines.

Key Deliverables
  • Prepare, review, and submit statutory tax obligations including VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), Corporate Income Tax, and deferred tax schedules within required deadlines.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of tax data by validating tax packs, reviewing ERP transactions, reconciling tax accounts, and aligning submissions with Group reporting requirements.
  • Support tax audits and compliance reviews by responding to tax authority queries, preparing supporting documentation, and maintaining proper tax records.
  • Provide tax advisory support by interpreting tax laws, advising departments on tax implications, and escalating complex or high-risk tax matters to the Financial Controller.
  • Maintain effective tax governance through updated tax trackers, proper documentation retention, internal tax reviews, and audit-ready tax files.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close processes by ensuring accurate tax postings, balance sheet reconciliations, and timely submission of supporting schedules.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on business operations and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Audit, and other business functions to ensure compliance with tax policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Statistics, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification in ACCA or CPA required, or currently at an advanced stage.
  • Additional certification in taxation is an added advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in tax accounting, corporate finance, or financial reporting.
  • Experience managing statutory tax compliance, tax reconciliations, and tax audits.
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying Uganda tax laws and international tax principles.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as JDE, SAP, or similar financial systems.
  • Experience supporting corporate tax processes within a structured business environment.
Knowledge & Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of Uganda tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Corporate taxation, VAT, WHT, and deferred tax management.
  • Tax reporting, reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • ERP systems including SAP, JDE, or equivalent platforms.
  • Audit preparation and compliance management.
  • Financial reporting and month-end close processes.
  • Tax risk identification and mitigation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial and tax information.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Working Environment
  • Office-based role at Head Office with regular engagement with Finance teams, auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities.
  • Requires strict adherence to confidentiality, financial controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Operates in a deadline-driven environment requiring accuracy, responsiveness, and effective management of multiple tax obligations.
  • May require participation in tax audits, compliance reviews, and meetings with external stakeholders.

  • Timeliness and accuracy of statutory tax filings and submissions.
  • Quality and completeness of tax reconciliations and reporting.
  • Tax audit outcomes, compliance scores, and resolution of tax queries.
  • Accuracy of ERP tax postings and supporting documentation.
