Livelihoods Officers

Organisation: Watoto Child Care Ministries
Department: Watoto Neighbourhood
Duty Station: Kampala and Gulu
Contract Type: Full-time Contract
Reports to: Livelihoods Coordinator

Job Purpose

To support and implement livelihood initiatives at the Centre level by equipping mothers to access skilling opportunities and support to achieve sustainable income, savings, and economic resilience.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • Support in the identification and enrolment of mothers onto the livelihoods programme.
  • Conduct mothers’ selection assessments as per established criteria and skills needs evaluation.
  • Implement and deliver livelihood activities.
  • Support the implementation of structured mentorship activities within the livelihood programme.
  • Coordinate capacity-building and training initiatives for mothers to deliver programme activities effectively.
  • Provide basic follow-up support to community volunteers during programme implementation.
  • Support mothers to access employment, apprenticeship opportunities, financial institutions, and services.
  • Coordinate the linkage of mothers to available opportunities, markets, and resources.
  • Participate in selected district-level government and partner engagements when required.
  • Maintain working relationships with partners to support livelihood activities.
  • Support the establishment, strengthening of networking efforts, and collaboration with partners.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely periodic reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in livelihood programming.
  • Experience in training in livelihoods, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, or project management is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with groups such as women, youth, or vulnerable households in a community setting.
  • Basic experience in facilitating trainings or supporting income-generating activities.
  • Experience in data collection, reporting, and basic monitoring of programme activities.
  • Knowledge of government livelihood programmes (e.g., PDM, GROW) is an added advantage.
  • Must have knowledge of the local language.
  • A committed, consistent, and discipled Christian who demonstrates spiritual maturity and active engagement in discipleship, aligned with Watoto values.
