Job Description
Senior Design Engineer
Number of Vacancies: Two (2)
Department: Operations
Reports to: Head Technical Operations, Design and Innovations
Job Purpose
Responsible for contributing to the attainment of NHCCL strategic objectives and goals by formulating proposals for new project sites and other building projects, as well as undertaking the design and preparation of structural drawings in support of project development and implementation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
New Site Proposals
- Participate in the initiation and formulation of proposals for new project sites and related building works in line with company business plans and budgets.
Design Project Guidelines
- Prepare design guidelines and concept papers, including aesthetic concepts.
- Coordinate design team members and drafts persons in preparing detailed structural drawings.
Documentation
- Prepare and process documents required for approvals from relevant local authorities.
Project Drawings
- Submit project drawings to local authorities.
- Follow up approvals to ensure timely processing and project implementation.
Risk Management
- Manage risks associated with project planning, design, and documentation.
- Provide construction supervision and project management support.
Compliance
- Supervise ongoing construction works to ensure compliance with approved designs and building standards.
Technical Support to Management
- Provide technical advice on investment opportunities, projects, partnerships, contractors, and service providers.
- Support supervision, quality assurance, facilitation, and coordination of project implementation to ensure successful and profitable delivery.
Reporting
- Prepare timely and accurate technical operations reports related to design and project conceptualization.
- Attend departmental, site, and other meetings as required.
- Represent the company whenever assigned.
Team Leadership and Management
- Manage recruitment, development, performance management, remuneration, rewards, career planning, coaching, mentoring, training, and employee engagement for direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Additional qualifications in:
- Business Management, or
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field are desirable.
- Full and valid membership of a recognized professional engineering body with a valid practicing certificate (Mandatory).
- Specialized training and qualifications in Project Planning and Management (Mandatory).
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience as a Structural Design Engineer or in a similar role within:
- A reputable construction company
- Civil works company
- Consultancy firm
- Large-scale civil works project
- Proven experience in the design of high-rise buildings, including at least three projects of four storeys and above.
- Experience with public or private sector organizations involved in housing projects or programmes is an added advantage.
Behavioral and Technical Competencies
- Good understanding of the building and construction industry.
- Proficiency in architectural and design software, including:
- AutoCAD
- ArchCAD
- Revit
- 3D Design and Animation Software
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly:
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Knowledge of:
- Project Management
- NHCC product and service offerings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with people from all levels of society.
- Strong coordination and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Self-confidence and professionalism.
- Creative, innovative, and adventurous mindset.
- Strong attention to detail.
