Job Description

Job Title: Science Officer – IT (Systems Developer)

Department: Finance & Administration
Contract Period: Two (2) Years

Job Purpose

To design, develop, implement, and maintain business applications that provide automated solutions for specific institutional needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and/or customize existing software solutions by analyzing information needs, system flows, data usage, and work processes while adhering to the software development lifecycle.
  • Design algorithms and flowcharts to create new interoperable software programs and systems.
  • Develop efficient and reliable code based on specified requirements.
  • Test and deploy software programs and applications.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and improve existing software applications.
  • Compile and assess user feedback to enhance software performance.
  • Monitor user feedback and recommend improvements to existing software products.
  • Develop technical documentation to guide future software development projects.
  • Participate in developing programs for data inconsistency and validation checks, both between files and within files, to identify inconsistencies, discrepancies, and generate reports.
  • Ensure that developed software conforms to software development standards through system reviews, optimization, and preparation of reference manuals.
Job Requirements
A. Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
B. Work Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in software development and maintenance.
  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in software development or a related field.
C. Technical Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using various development tools.
D. Key Competencies
  • Ability to program in PHP, C#, Java (J2EE), HTML, VB, Kobocollect, ODK, R, MySQL, and other relevant programming languages and tools.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and manage pressure effectively.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of software design principles and programming methodologies.
