ABOUT WATOTO

Watoto is a Christian childcare ministry committed to celebrating Christ and caring for vulnerable children and women in Uganda and South Sudan. Through childcare, education, discipleship, community development, and humanitarian initiatives, Watoto seeks to raise godly transformational leaders and restore hope to vulnerable communities.

JOB PURPOSE

To ensure that the Centre and its facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, hygienic, and orderly condition to support operational and programme activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Maintain designated Centre areas to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and order.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including mopping, buffing, dusting, polishing, and spot-cleaning of hard and soft surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, washrooms, bins, glass surfaces, doors, windows, and other high-touch areas in line with hygiene standards.
  • Maintain proper arrangement of furniture and ensure cleanliness of outdoor surroundings by removing moss, weeds, and debris.
  • Implement infection prevention and control measures, including proper waste handling, disposal, and adherence to hygiene protocols.
  • Monitor and replenish handwashing stations to ensure continuous availability of soap, sanitiser, and PPE supplies.
  • Inspect and report maintenance needs, damages, and repair requirements to the Centre Administrator in a timely manner.
  • Assist with porterage duties, including furniture movement and organisation of goods, equipment, and supplies.
  • Receive, check, and verify deliveries and ensure proper storage and accurate recording of all items received.
  • Monitor and safeguard Centre utilities, including roofs, stopcocks, gas, water, and electricity systems, and report hazards promptly.
  • Track and report shortages of cleaning materials, infection control items, and other operational supplies.
  • Maintain awareness of all utility installations and support safe operational usage across the Centre.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a busy facility, office, or similar role involving cleaning, maintenance, or support services.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning procedures, infection control measures, and facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of cleaning chemicals, waste disposal, and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and support a team in maintaining a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment.
  • Experience working within faith-based and/or international NGO settings, particularly with vulnerable children, women, and families.
  • A committed, consistent, and discipled Christian who demonstrates spiritual maturity and active engagement in discipleship, in alignment with Watoto values.
