Job Description

The Senior Consultant in Public Health is a specialist role concerned with protecting and improving the health of populations. Public health focuses on preventing illness, identifying health risks, reducing the spread of disease and developing interventions that improve health outcomes across communities. Unlike roles centred primarily on treating individual patients, public health work addresses patterns of illness and the conditions that influence health across groups of people.

The discipline involves analysing health information, assessing disease patterns, evaluating prevention programmes and supporting the development of evidence-based health interventions. Public health specialists contribute to understanding the distribution of diseases, identifying groups at increased risk and determining appropriate measures to address health problems. Their work can involve health promotion, disease surveillance, outbreak response, programme evaluation and technical advice to health authorities, depending on the post’s assigned responsibilities.

The role contributes to stronger disease prevention, improved health planning and more effective responses to public health threats. Public health expertise helps institutions and health authorities identify priorities, allocate resources and assess whether interventions are achieving their intended outcomes. The specific responsibilities of the advertised Senior Consultant position, including any leadership or policy duties, must be verified against the Commission’s official job description.
