Job Description

Job Title: Field Extension Officer (FEO)
  • Number of Positions: 14 (9 in Kole, 5 in Dokolo)
  • Reports to: Community Engagement Officer

Job Purpose

The Field Extension Officer (FEO) is responsible for implementing Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP), supporting farmer group development, delivering extension services, and promoting economic empowerment initiatives within assigned communities.


Key Responsibilities

A. General Requirements

  • Reside in the assigned sub-county and speak the local language
  • Lead and manage the PIP process within assigned communities
  • Support farmers to form groups (EGs, VSLAs, FLGs) based on priorities from Harvesting Workshops
  • Facilitate visits by SWMO/MDO/CA and follow up on agreed actions
  • Organize and support group learning sessions and activities

B. Participatory Integrated Planning (Pathway 1)

  • Lead selection of project communities (cohorts 1–4) as guided
  • Plan, implement, and report daily PIP activities
  • Train PIs and support cascading training to G1 and G2 farmers
  • Conduct monitoring, data collection, documentation, and reporting
  • Identify one restoration site and one school per sub-county with CVC and CEO

C. Farming Systems, Irrigation and Extension (Pathway 2)

  • Develop and update Extension Agenda based on Harvesting Workshops
  • Organize and deliver extension activities such as:
    • Exchange visits and peer learning
    • Technical trainings
    • Field days and open days
    • Farmers Learning Groups and demonstration plots
  • Facilitate training by external experts (PSA, DLG, project staff)
  • Use mass media (leaflets, radio, video) to inform farmers

D. Economic Empowerment: Inclusive Market Development (Pathway 3)

  • Support MDOs and PSA in developing inclusive business models
  • Develop and update Economic Empowerment Agenda
  • Conduct focus group discussions and support selection of EGs and VSLAs
  • Organize and report training, exchange visits, and networking events
  • Facilitate training by private sector, local government, and project experts
  • Collect and document data on economic groups

E. Farmers’ Organizations Development (Pathway 3)

  • Facilitate linkages between EGs, VSLAs, and Anchor Coops/SACCOs
  • Monitor service uptake and support households in utilizing services
  • Mobilize households and VSLAs for EFFORT sessions
  • Aggregate and translate household needs into actionable service demands

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Community Engagement Officer or FINASP management

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agroecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Agroforestry, Agricultural Extension, or related field
  • At least 3 years of field experience in agriculture, natural resources, or community development projects
  • Knowledge of Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP), climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable land management
  • Strong mentorship and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work independently in remote areas with minimal supervision
  • Fluency in local languages is an added advantage
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit
