Job Description

📍 Mbarara, Uganda

Do you get satisfaction from a clean repayment schedule and loans that land in a farmer’s account within minutes? We’re looking for a Portfolio Associate to keep our dairy loans flowing and our portfolio healthy across Southwest Uganda.

About Emata

We are a fast-growing Ugandan fintech transforming agricultural finance. Since launching in 2021, we have served  60,000+ farmers and partnered with 100+ agri companies and cooperatives, including several of the continent’s most renowned agri company players. We blend AI, technology, and deep industry expertise to deliver world-class lending products tailored for farmers.

  • Products: Digital loans, crop insurance, digital payments
  • Team: 20+ engineers, data scientists, product & business
  • Culture perks: cappuccinos from farmers we lend to, freedom to learn & innovate, flexible remote days, and more.

At our core, we value teamwork over titles, critical thinking over copying, ownership of outcomes, fast learning, and integrity without compromise.

What you’ll do

You’ll be the engine behind our Dairy Southwest portfolio – making sure money goes out fast, comes back on time, and every farmer keeps their loan limit growing. Specifically:

  • Keep loans flowing: set up loan products, run KYC and CRB checks, make pre-disbursement calls, and get most loans disbursed within 15 minutes
  • Protect portfolio quality: keep PAR within target, chase on-time repayments, and reconcile every shilling against the repayment schedule
  • Spot trouble early: flag repayment issues before they grow and work them through with clients and farmers
  • Grow our lendables: drive MIS usage and keep farmer data clean and complete
  • Keep insurance tidy: make sure cover is in place where relevant and claims are settled without delay
  • Support launches & partners: help prepare (re)launches in the field, and keep partnership reporting and status overviews up to date

You might be the one if you are…

  • Detail-obsessed and comfortable with numbers, schedules, and reconciliation
  • Proactive – you chase the issue, you don’t wait for it
  • Confident on the phone and in the field with farmers and partners
  • A team player who takes ownership of outcomes
  • Fluent in Runyankole  and English

What we offer

A unique opportunity to build your career in an award-winning, venture-capital-backed startup that’s reshaping how African farmers access finance. Competitive package, health insurance, employee shareholder plan, salary loans, and a friendly, hard-working team.

Ready to have real impact? Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis – don’t wait!
