Position Summary

The Agriculture Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, practical, and theoretical instruction in Agriculture to secondary school students in the Luuka and Serere communities, in line with the national curriculum.

The role combines classroom teaching with hands-on supervision of the school farm/demonstration garden, equipping students with agricultural knowledge, vocational skills, and Christ-centered values that prepare them for further study, self-employment, or community agricultural development.

The Agriculture Teacher works closely with the Director of Studies, fellow subject teachers, and AsOne Ministries leadership to promote academic excellence and practical skill-building among learners.

  • Deliver engaging theoretical lessons covering crop science, animal husbandry, soil science, agri-business, and farm management.
  • Set, administer, and mark class tests, assignments, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Track learner performance and progress, identifying learning gaps and providing remedial support where needed.
  • Prepare students for national and internal examinations, ensuring full syllabus coverage within the academic calendar.

Practical & Farm-Based Instruction

  • Plan and supervise practical lessons on the school farm, garden, or demonstration plots.
  • Guide students in hands-on activities including planting, crop management, animal rearing, irrigation, and record-keeping.
  • Maintain the school farm/garden as a functional teaching resource, ensuring it reflects current best practices.
  • Oversee the safe use, maintenance, and storage of farm tools, equipment, and inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and agro-chemicals.
  • Organize student projects, field trips, and demonstrations that reinforce classroom learning through real-world application.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are observed during all practical and field-based activities.

Student Guidance & Mentorship

  • Mentor students interested in agriculture-related career paths, including further studies and agribusiness opportunities.
  • Encourage participation in agriculture clubs, exhibitions, competitions, and community outreach programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to students on projects, portfolios, and practical assessments.
  • Model discipline, responsibility, and a strong work ethic in both classroom and field settings.

Resource & Farm Management

  • Prepare and manage the budget for farm inputs, tools, and practical activities in collaboration with school administration.
  • Maintain accurate records of farm production, inputs, sales where applicable, and inventory.
  • Identify opportunities to generate income or in-kind benefits for the school through farm produce, in line with school policy.
  • Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and stock control of agricultural tools, equipment, and consumables.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Studies and fellow subject teachers to align academic planning.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings, and school-wide events.
  • Collaborate with school leadership on co-curricular activities related to agriculture and environmental stewardship.
