About the Organization

Andre Foods International (AFI) is a registered National Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) in Uganda committed to supporting refugees and vulnerable communities. The organization delivers programmes in food security, nutrition, health, WASH, environmental sustainability, gender protection, and research through partnerships with government institutions, local communities, international NGOs, and United Nations agencies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Co-facilitate Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions on Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) and Hygienic Cooking with District Health Inspectors for Health Assistants, covering safe food handling, personal hygiene, prevention of cross-contamination, proper storage practices, and First-In, First-Out (FIFO) stock rotation.
  • Support the rollout of refresher training on FSQ and hygienic cooking for school cooks, caterers, and storekeepers, including the Energy-Efficient Cooking Module on the proper use and maintenance of institutional cookstoves.
  • Oversee the implementation and utilization of FSQ Monitoring Kits, including moisture meters and aflatoxin testing tools, while institutionalizing moisture-monitoring protocols across project schools.
  • Participate in joint technical site assessments with District Engineers and Health Inspectors to identify critical infrastructure gaps such as ventilation, drainage, and kitchen or storage layouts, and recommend appropriate improvements.
  • Maintain a tracking system for food safety non-conformities and corrective action plans, ensuring timely follow-up and closure.
  • Liaise with WFP Food Safety and Quality focal points, District Health Inspectors, District Production Officers, and Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) representatives on food safety and quality matters.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or nutrition programmes, with practical expertise in training, inspections, and compliance with national and international food safety and quality standards.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • A valid riding permit is an added advantage.
