Location: Luuka / Serere Community, Uganda
Department: Education

Status: Full-Time

Position Summary
The P.E./Biology Teacher will deliver high-quality instruction in Physical Education and Biology to secondary school students. The role combines academic teaching with practical sports, laboratory, fitness, and health activities, while promoting students’ physical wellbeing, scientific understanding, teamwork, and confidence within a Christ-centered learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Delivery & Instruction

  • Plan and deliver P.E. and Biology lessons according to the national curriculum and UNEB requirements.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment schedules.
  • Teach biological processes, human anatomy and physiology, physical fitness, and sports theory.
  • Use demonstrations, practical drills, and problem-solving activities.
  • Set, administer, mark, and provide feedback on tests, assignments, and examinations.
  • Monitor learner performance and provide remedial support.
  • Prepare students for UCE/UACE Biology examinations.
  • Integrate health education, nutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness, and injury prevention.

Practical, Laboratory & Sports Instruction

  • Plan and supervise Biology practical lessons and experiments.
  • Guide students in the safe use of laboratory equipment and specimens.
  • Organize P.E. lessons, athletics training, team sports, and games.
  • Maintain laboratory and sports equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure health and safety during laboratory and sporting activities.
  • Organize inter-house and inter-school sports competitions, athletics days, science fairs, and related activities.

Student Guidance & Mentorship

  • Mentor students interested in sports, physical training, health sciences, and STEM careers.
  • Coach and prepare school sports teams for competitions.
  • Encourage participation in science and sports clubs.
  • Support students struggling with Biology or physical fitness activities.
  • Model discipline, sportsmanship, curiosity, and a strong work ethic.

Resource & Records Management

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, fitness assessments, and continuous assessment.
  • Support budgeting and procurement of textbooks, laboratory materials, sports equipment, and teaching aids.
  • Maintain proper care, maintenance, and stock control of laboratory and sports resources.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Director of Studies and other teachers.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings, and school events.
  • Support co-curricular activities involving sports, health, agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
  • Engage parents and the community in supporting students’ physical wellbeing and practical science learning.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education, with Physical Education and Biology as teaching subjects, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ secondary school teaching experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the national P.E. and Biology curriculum, UNEB syllabus, and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines.
  • Practical experience in Biology laboratory demonstrations/experiments.
  • Experience in coaching or officiating school sports.
  • Relevant teaching registration/licensing where applicable.
  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered education.
