About the Role

The Sonographer will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support accurate diagnosis and treatment, particularly in maternal and general healthcare. The role requires technical competence, careful documentation, patient confidentiality, and compassionate, Christ-centered patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, and general ultrasound scans.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment safely and obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Document and report sonographic findings accurately.
  • Identify and promptly report urgent or abnormal findings to the Clinical Officer.
  • Conduct antenatal scans to assess gestational age, fetal growth, position, and wellbeing.
  • Maintain, clean, and safely store ultrasound equipment.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Refer patients requiring specialized imaging or further investigation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly imaging reports and statistics.
  • Monitor supplies such as ultrasound gel, printing paper, and other consumables.
  • Ensure secure storage and controlled access to ultrasound images and reports.
  • Support scheduling and coordination of ultrasound appointments.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and protect sensitive health information.
  • Communicate with patients in a respectful, compassionate, and professional manner.
  • Support patients who are anxious or receiving difficult health information.
  • Work closely with Clinical Officers, nurses, midwives, laboratory staff, and referral facilities.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement activities, staff devotions, and outreach programs.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and maintain valid professional licensing.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Clinic Manager or administration.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiography, or Medical Imaging Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the relevant Ugandan regulatory body.
  • Minimum 2 years of sonography experience.
  • Experience in obstetric and general abdominal ultrasound is preferred.
  • Experience in primary care, rural, or community health settings is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound techniques and common sonographic findings.

  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment.
  • Good knowledge of infection prevention and control.
  • High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and discretion.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record management.
  • Ability to provide a safe, dignified, and confidential environment for patients.
