Job Description

Structural Draftsperson

Number of Vacancies: Two (2)
Department: Operations
Reports to: Senior Design Engineer

Job Purpose

Responsible for contributing to the attainment of NHCCL strategic objectives and goals through the preparation of working structural drawings for housing plans and other assigned projects within the approved project scope.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Working Drawings

  • Prepare working drawings from structural sketches.
  • Produce detailed structural drawings for use in project plans and construction activities.

Site Inspection

  • Carry out site inspections.
  • Assist Foremen and Masons in interpreting structural drawings.

Custodial Responsibilities

  • Ensure all structural working drawings and related documentation are securely stored and maintained.

Consultation and Coordination

  • Consult regularly with the Structural Engineer during execution of duties.
  • Ensure production of complete, accurate, and appropriate building plans.

Compliance

  • Perform all duties in accordance with:
    • NHCC operational standards
    • Professional ethics and standards for Structural Draftspersons

Reporting

  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports relating to:
    • Working drawings
    • Assigned tasks
    • Any additional requirements from supervisors and management
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma in:
    • Draftsmanship
    • Or a closely related discipline
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or institution is an added advantage.
  • Membership in a nationally or internationally recognized professional body is desirable.
  • Specialized training in Project Planning and Management is an added advantage.
  • Additional qualifications in Business Management from a recognized institution are an added advantage.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as:

    • Draftsperson
    • Or a similar role

    in a reputable:

    • Construction company
    • Civil works company
    • Consultancy firm
  • Experience in housing-related projects within public or private sector organizations is an added advantage.
  • Proven proficiency in:
    • Architectural and Structural design software
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Good understanding of the building and construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Architectural and Structural design software.
  • Good presentation and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of project management and NHCC products and services.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.

  • Good coordination and networking abilities.
